It's true. My friend, Christine and I have attended two quilting retreats in March, two weeks apart. (We won't mention that we were away for a week at the end of February at QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC...). This is the end of our quilting retreats for until November, when we have two more. We are both very productive on the retreats and manage to get lots of sewing done. It's amazing what you can accomplish over the course of 2 1/2 or 3 days of concentrated time with no cooking, dishes and other distractions! I spent ...
read moreI hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and some time to relax this past week once the festivities were over. I have managed to do a bit of knitting this week as well as some un-sewing (more on that later in this post!). During the month of December, I worked on knitting a new hat for my husband whenever he was out or otherwise occupied. Despite my best efforts, I did not get it done in time and he ended up unwrapping an unfinished gift. He was surprised and pleased with my gift to him, which makes it all worthwhile ...

We both were very productive at the retreat--sewing morning, noon and night with breaks for meals and sleeping only! This is why there was no blogpost here this past weekend. I brought lots of projects with me--heaven forbid I run out of things to sew!
I made a couple of Christmas gifts, one of which I can show here now. This little wall hanging is for my MIL for her room in the nursing home where she lives. She loves Christmas and ...

I spent some quality time with my sewing machine this week. The Elgin Piecemakers Guild makes comfort quilts for adult chemo patients at our local hospital so each month, we each have to make a block in a certain colour scheme. I have my first four blocks for 2023 made. Here they are:
January: Blue and white.
February: Red, white and blue
March: Purple, pink and white
April: Blue and purple churn dash.
The condition of my sewing room has deteriorated over the last month or so to the point where I could not find my rotary cutter... it was time for a clean up. I spent over an hour putting things away, folding fabric, sorting through piles, etc. and still no rotary cutter. I tried to think of the last time I used it...then, I remembered I used it at a recent guild sewing day---it was in the bag I took to the sewing day. Oh well, the sewing room is looking much better and I had a new project planned ...
read moreI tackled a UFO this week--they will not get done unless I work on them! I participated in a round robin with some members of the Toronto Modern Guild last summer and made a wall hanging out of my centre block with a spool border made by Terri. The other borders/blocks will be used in future projects. I found some appropriate backing fabric and pieced some batting scraps before pin basting and quilting it with my walking foot. My slow stitching project this week was sewing the binding down. It is the same fabric as the background gray around ...
read moreThe end of the year is a good time to look back at what we have accomplished in the past 12 months. Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs hosts and annual "Best of..." party and so I will be linking this post up to her blog. I have done lots of machine sewing, hand stitching and knitting this year and it is hard to pick out which projects were my favourites. Here is my best effort!
1. My favourite hand stitching project was "Love Birds"--a counted cross stitch picture that I made for a friend's daughter and her husband ...
